Schmaltz started with a simple idea: great beer should bring people together.
Properly brewed, full of flavour and made to be enjoyed - because the best part of a beer isn't just what's in the glass.
It's the conversation. The company. The round that turns into another round. Those moments you don't really want to end.
That's what Schmaltz is about.
Our Story
We're Henry and Lauren, a couple from Hull who've always loved beer - not just the drink itself, but everything that comes with it.
Pubs. Gigs. Good food. Catching up with mates. Long conversations. That first cold sip that tells you you're staying for a bit.
When alcohol stopped being part of our lives, none of that disappeared.
In fact, it eventually led us somewhere completely unexpected.
We created AlcoHull Free, initially to share the alcohol-free options we were finding around Hull and East Yorkshire. Before long, it had grown into something much bigger - a community built around meeting people, getting out, doing things and showing that changing your relationship with alcohol doesn't mean changing your relationship with everything you enjoy.
Through AlcoHull Free, we spent a lot of time in pubs and venues. We tried a lot of beer. We spoke to breweries, got to know people across the industry and learned more and more about what goes into making a genuinely good beer.
And somewhere along the way, we started asking ourselves:
Why don't we make the beer we actually want to drink?
So we did.
Schmaltz didn't come out of nowhere. It's grown from everything we've experienced, learned and enjoyed along the way.
It's something we're building together.
The Beer Comes First.
We never wanted Schmaltz to be a brand people choose simply because it's alcohol free.
We want to make genuinely good beer that people choose because they like the beer.
Proper flavour. Properly brewed. Something you look forward to opening and want another of when you've finished.
Tropic'ull is where we're starting - a 0.5% tropical IPA built around Citra, Idaho 7 and Azacca hops, with big tropical fruit, bright citrus and a crisp, pine finish.
It's beer number one.
Definitely not the last.
Keep the round going.
Not everyone wants to drink alcohol all night. That doesn't mean they want to go home.
Maybe you're alcohol free. Maybe you're driving. Maybe you're pacing yourself, cutting back or you just fancy a beer without the booze.
Whatever the reason, you should still be able to have a beer you actually want to drink.
Another round. Another conversation. Another hour with your mates.
Because beer has always been about more than what's in the glass.
It's about connection, conversation and community.
